One of our recent posts explained what is a good workstation for your mobile makeup artist on your wedding day or other special events so that you can get maximise efficiency and get the best results.
This blog post is an extension of the same topic, where we share some tips on setting up a workstation for your hairstylist or hairdresser.
Power outlet / Power point
Different to setting up a makeup workstation (where lighting is the #1 priority), access to a power outlet is crucial. All hairstylists will need to plug in their equipment, such as hairdryer, GHD, other straightener and curling iron.
If you need to use an extension cord or extension board to bring the power to the workstation, make sure that the cord is not placed across any walkway to avoid you or any of your guests tripping over.
Your hairstylist will need a table to place his/her equipment, hair products and mirror. A dining table is perfect for this purpose.
If the surface of the table is not heat resistant, use a couple of hand towels or fold a bath towel twice to protect the table surface.
If there is no spare table available (e.g. if you are getting ready in your bedroom or a small hotel room), your hairstylists should be able to place his/her equipment on a chair. Again, make sure you protect the surface of the chair from the heated equipment.
Almost all mobile hairstylists and hairdressers will work standing, so you will just need to prepare a chair for you and/or your guests. Folding chairs and dining chairs are usually suitable.
Hairstylists are less fussy with lighting than makeup artists. As long as there is some light, they should be able to work.
If you have more than one hairstylist...
Experienced hair stylists will be able to work together if your table is big enough. Make sure you have enough chairs for your guests while your hairstylists are working on them. Your mobile hairstylists usually bring extension boards with them, especially when you hire more than one hairstylist from the same team. It is their job to make sure they have all electrical equipment they need to make sure they can work efficiently.
